The Launch of Our Foundation's Branding

The Foundation for the Advancement of Mi’kmaw Education proudly unveils a new brand identity — one deeply rooted in Mi’kmaw knowledge, community, and cultural continuity. More than a visual refresh, this new identity reflects the Foundation’s commitment to honouring the past while helping shape the future of Mi’kmaw education for generations to come.
At the heart of the new brand is a logo rich with meaning and intention. Inspired by the Mi’kmaq hieroglyph for “ALL,” the symbol reflects the Foundation’s vision of inclusion, collective growth, and shared responsibility. The inverted triangle within the design also represents a distinctly Mi’kmaw worldview — one that values community-led guidance and collective wisdom over colonial “top-down” systems of leadership and decision-making.

The logo further incorporates seven prominent elements, acknowledging the deep cultural significance of the number seven within Mi’kmaw teachings and traditions. Across Mi’kmaw knowledge systems, seven is reflected in many important teachings and understandings, including:
- The Seven Sacred Teachings and Wisdoms
- The Seven Sacred Directions
- The Seven Original Districts
- The Seven Original Families
- The Seven Sacred Fires
- The Seven Levels of Creation
- The responsibility to care for the next Seven Generations

The Foundation’s visual identity extends beyond the logo itself. The colour palette and supporting graphic elements were carefully inspired by traditional Mi’kmaw regalia, grounding the brand in authentic cultural history and artistry. Every colour, texture, and design detail was selected to honour Mi’kmaw traditions while creating a modern and enduring visual presence. Additional brand elements, including beadwork-inspired graphics and digital textures, continue this storytelling across the Foundation’s website and communications, creating a cohesive identity that feels both contemporary and culturally grounded.
